Players can have conversations with characters in-game.

Rebel Galaxy[ | ]

The Player[ | ]

In Rebel Galaxy, you play as the player.

The player is a silent protagonist and their face is not shown anywhere in the game.

The player have different reputations with the groups present in the game. They can raise their reputations with any groups by doing missions. However, most missions affect more than one groups and as such it is very difficult to be neutral with both Militia and the Red Devil Cartel, for example.

Juno Markev[ | ]

Juno Markev is the name of the player's aunt within the game.

The game begins with a cutscene, revealing that the player received a cryptic message from Juno. She is described as the family's black sheep and that the player hasn't seen her in 10 years. She begged the player to meet her as quickly as possible and also sent the player the access codes to her old ship Rasputin and coordinates to Rust City, a station in a backwater system far from the core galaxy, where thieves and liars mingle. The player is then contacted by Orzu, an acquaintance of Juno.

A little while after meeting Orzu, he will direct the player to Sandar, a Greel who used to work together with Juno.

The player is shown to be not aware of her aunt's profession, as they thought she is just a normal trader while in reality, Juno is a smuggler.

Juno is shown to be enemies with both Militia and the DoubleJack pirates, as the player must rescue her from the latter. Zenya Kerr despises her and several internal members of the Militia itself for an unmentioned problem.

After being saved from the DoubleJack pirates in any way, Juno will thank the player and point them towards a station where they can meet.

They will then accompany player to their first jump to the second system.

Orzu[ | ]

Orzu is a Korian that the player interacts with in the first mission and who gives the main character the Specter (a device holding Trell) to start off the Campaign. He gives the player two beginner missions and is the first character they meet. He is always located in Rust City, Gilgamesh.

He also knew your aunt Juno and was entrusted with the Specter device; Sandar was her partner in smuggling but she - possibly wisely - did not trust Sandar to hold the device for her.

At the beginning of the game, Orzu will send the player on missions that will explain the mechanics of a game, such as trading and fighting. He will also provide a free upgrade for the player to choose: a tractor beam or a deflector.

In Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, he is a friend of the player's character Juno Markev. At the start of the game Orzu offers Juno a replacement ship (the Platypus) after Juno loses hers.

Sandar[ | ]

Sandar, a Greel, is an old partner of your Aunt Juno, and he's an information broker. He sends you on a fight mission against a DoubleJack pirate (just like Orzu did). This includes sending you to meet with a robot researcher. This researcher needs some help and he helps you find out what the device Juno left you is.

You learn it's a Specter, which holds an Artificial Intelligence.

The cunning Greel will send a pirate named Blackhand Sims (affiliated with the Red Devil Cartel) after you. Blackhand Sims will remark how "someone" told them your location. He will hail you afterwards and show a fake relief of your survival and hands you the coordinate (of Zenya Kerr). When you finally met Juno and leave for the second system, he will appear with two Frigate bodyguard ships and a few fighters to take Trell away from you. When his ship's health drops to 50%, he will hail you again in panic and offers you 30,000 Credits to spare him. Once you accept the credit, his ship will become friendly. You can still manually attack and destroy his ship, if you want to. If you reach and use the jump gate without attacking him, he will never make another attempt to attack you.

Trell[ | ]

Trell is an Artificial Intelligence that you can receive from Orzu. She will activate once you meet with the robotic scientist in the story mission.

Throughout the story, Trell will task you with retrieving several reliquary pieces to help her regain her memory. She will reward you with permanent ship upgrades. You must carefully choose because you can not change this upgrade later.

The first set of upgrades she gives is efficiency boosting for reflector or booster. The second set of upgrades are between Engines or Shields.

Zenya Kerr[ | ]

Zenya Kerr is a Militia captain that appears in several missions, such as Squealer.

You will first meet her after Sandar arranges a meeting for the player to meet her. Zenya will ask the player to destroy a trader's ship containing contrabands. She will then help the player in saving Juno from DoubleJack pirates. She will provide 3 locations for the player, the last one where Juster is located. When Juster's ship is destroyed and he is collected as a cargo, she will then accompany the player in their assault on the DoubleJack facility in Rescue Attempt mission.

She is killable if the player sides with Juster. She will appear with the Militia fleet and must be destroyed before Juster will let Juno go.

Cofax[ | ]

Cofax is a mercenary working for the Mercenaries' Guild in the second system and beyond. Cofax will contact you once you arrive in the second system. Speaking to Juno first is not a requirement, but you may need to have begun the mission to break her out from DoubleJack custody. Cofax will hail you and invite you to discuss a mission. She will not meet you in the Mercenaries' Guild's station, but in a Militia station in the same system.

Meathook[ | ]

Meathook is the Red Devil Cartel counterpart of Cofax that appears when your reputation with Red Devil is better than the player's reputation with the Militia. When the conditions are met, Meathook will appear instead of Cofax and will direct you to the nearby Red Devil station for the same missions Cofax provides.

Juster[ | ]

Juster is a DoubleJack captain with some seniority. He is a character in the mission Squealer.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw[ | ]

Characters in Rebel Galaxy Outlaw are individuals the player character can encounter and/or who are relevant to the main story.

The player assumes the protagonist role of Juno Markev, a pilot whose husband was killed on a simple supply run and who recently lost her own ship.

Buddies[ | ]

Buddies are non-player characters which you discover during the main story. They can give you secondary missions from time to time and you can also activate one of them at the time to assist you on a given mission.

Buddy list Home system Home station
Richter Texas Nacogdoches
Satchel New Mexico Hobbes
Sharky Louisiana Lafitte Tech
Marla Juarez Jesse's Den
Connor Montana Port Belgrade

To activate a specific buddy you have to dock on their specific home station (home system is denoted by a star next to the system name on the sector map) and select their name added in the function list of that station. Differently if you want to speak with them (to activate their side mission or report), you have to enter the Bar location in their current position in the galaxy (not necessarily the home station), as indicated and pointed by the mission objective.

They can be called by radio and can support you actively for 10 minutes maximum among one or more missions, then they will be unavailable for 10 minutes. Once called they will follow you everywhere, but they cannot dock in any station.

If a buddy call you asking for your help, they'll become automatically busy (and unavailable) until you complete the relative side mission. In this case you have to activate an other buddy to get help in meantime.
